Not been post trendy for a long while. The fact that my country has been going through different phases of political, social, and economical changes, I myself included. Man must chop, living the good life is very much on my priority list.
One thing you don't know about me is that I like my hair well and fully grown before taking it down again, and by hair I mean scalp and facial hair. This for a very long time has been an issue with me and my mom. It has always been 'war of the words' when it came to that aspect. On my good days I can form 'not hearing' for as long as I'm ready to then take my hair down. But recently, experience has taught me that when a woman wants something done or likes something done in a particular way there's nothing you can pretty much do about it. The longer you stay adamant, the more irritated you become as a man because they won't stop...My mom will be like 'have you checked the mirror?', she goes on to say ' you know I've been telling you, if i was a lady and you approached me mhn mhn, i will not even give you face" and i I'm like ehn leave it like that, sebi that one is you.
For another hour or more I have peace of mind, until she just looks at me again (I can see and feel the exasperation in her look) and says in Yoruba 'bawo lo ma gbe oju e bayii, abi oo mo pe oo fine ni (how would you leave your hair untidy like this, don't you know it makes you ugly). I just make a very nonchalant facial expression and go on with whatever I was doing at the time. Days go by, then weeks, as if her exasperation is not enough, she calls my sister(s) to weigh in on the matter. And as always I reiterate my stance that I like leaving my hair be a long while before bringing it down, every talk from there I pay no mind too, the teasing, mocking and all.
When a woman (mother/wife) wants to put you out of your egostic realm, they have a very subtle and fierce way they go about it. Sometimes, it makes me wonder who really runs the world (Beyonce has a very strong case). When my mom's had it up to here with my defiance to still keep my hair, she lays down the MOMMY'S ULTIMATUM. If you're a son who loves his mom and always love to see her happy, then my brother you've got no choice, you have to honor the ultimatum. Seriously you can't be pissed about it.
After all, what is LOVE?
To be continued...
